Shingle Beach boasts a 5km stretch of beach ideal for exploration. With Island Marine Parks in close proximity, it serves as an excellent starting point for further adventures.
So many things to do on the beach from Rock hounding, Suntanning, Swimming , Fishing , Scuba Diving, and Beachcombing. Listen for the splash of the whales. Find a “flower rock” (star porphyry volcanic) a black volcanic stone with white, flower shaped, crystals unique to Texada. Be sure to go for a late night swim on a dark night to create the "lights of the sea" bioluminescence, amazing to experience.
There are many hiking trails on Texada and a few close to Shingle Beach. A short walk takes you to the beautiful bluff and close by is the Colossus Grove Trail. In the Spring enjoy some fresh Stinging nettle. In the Fall look for the Black Huck Berries that are abundant. If you enjoy geocaching, there are some to find here. Texada has many great Mountain Bike Trails and roadways. Be sure to bring the bikes on your camping adventure.
In the Spring and Early Summer, the mornings are alive with birdcalls. Something the delights our campers. Texada island is home to over 250 varieties of local and migratory birds. How many can you hear?
